Amanda Sawyer, Candidate for Denver City Council District 5
Which office are you running for and where?
Denver City Council, District 5.
When is your election day?
Ballots go out April 15th, and Election Day is May 7th.
Why did you decide to run for public office? Did someone encourage or inspire you? If so, who?
I am not a politician. I am running for office because regular people need to be the changes we want to see in our government.
What did you do before you decided to run? Where did you go to school? Tell us a little about your resume.
I’m a proud graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. I’m also a licensed attorney, MBA and small business strategist.
What are your top 3 key initiatives/policies?
Development – It’s time our city government gets back to representing our voices.
Public Safety – Give our city workers the resources they need to ensure the safety and vibrancy of our community.
Infrastructure – It’s time to dedicate a funding source for our mobility infrastructure and public transportation. Our quality of life and our environment depend it.
Tell us about a day in the life of your campaign or tell us your favorite story from the campaign trail.
My favorite thing about running for office is the people I’ve met and befriended on the campaign trail. My life is richer for this experience.
What is the biggest challenge you face as a candidate? Are there challenges you face that are unique to you as a woman candidate?
Being a candidate/mom/wife/daughter/sister/friend means I have a lot on my plate. But I’ve never backed down from a challenge.
What can women do to help you?
Help spread the word by speaking to other women in our district, knocking doors, making phone calls, contributing to the campaign.
We.Need.Your.Voice! I’m proudly running a grassroots campaign. No donations from big developers. But that’s hard without the help of volunteers so if you can spare two hours, please do!
